There is a big difference between routine cleaning porcelain floor tiles and full restoration. These can clearly be broken down in to these two different sectors. We were asked to deep clean these porcelain tiles in a hotel lobby in Aston Rowant. Routine cleaning in a commercial premises is different to that in a private home.
It is likely that routine cleaning in a commercial property will be undertaken by a general cleaning company. It is really important that they are well educated in the best ways to regularly clean your stone tiles.
Some companies will approach the job with a mop and a bucket. With little understanding of what best deep cleans porcelain tiles while protecting the surface finish. When a stone floor is cleaned and restored, it will have a stone sealer applied to protect the tiles underneath. Harsh and incompatible products will work to strip these back, leaving them likely to be damaged.
What not to use when Cleaning Porcelain Floor Tiles
Porcelain floor tiles are known to be exceptionally durable. This is true. However, there are some products and techniques that should be avoided. Knowledge of this can only help to keep your porcelain floor looking great.
- It is important not to use a product that contains harmful chemicals. These may include ammonia or bleach. The acidity can alter the colour of the tiles and grout and therefore should be avoided.
- Steel wool should never be used to clean porcelain tiles. Tiny pieces of the steel can become embedded in the tile surface or the grout lines which can cause issues such as rust stains.
- The same goes for using brushes with hard bristles or scrubbing brushes. Although you may feel they work to remove dirt, they will also scratch the tile surface.
- Other products to avoid include any cleaning solutions that contain dye or colouring, oil-based detergents or wax cleaning products.
